The buzz around the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
